The Lower Prut area, home to unique wetland and lake ecosystems with numerous valuable and threatened species, is facing hotter and drier weather, less water in rivers and lakes, and more severe extremes ranging from unpredictable floods to devastating forest fires. Over 100 species in the Lower Prut or Prutul de Jos biosphere reserve (PJBR) are particularly vulnerable to climate change, and to help them survive targeted measures will be needed. Fragile habitats will need to be protected, where possible expanded and connected together. Research and continuous monitoring will be needed to better understand the threatened species, populations and their environment.
